The Birth of Lemon Spritz

Frankly, I have to admit that Spritz is not one of my favourite cocktails, but I really like this variant. This limoncello cocktail is fresh, thirst-quenching and not overly alcoholic. It is very easy to prepare, and no special equipment is needed.

The first Lemon Spriz saw the light of day in 2012, thanks to a famous limoncello brand, “Bottega”, and was born under the name “Bottega Spritz”. The cocktail was later made famous in Rimini, using IGP limoncello with Amalfi lemons, a little ginger, prosecco and selz.

Limoncello Spritz Recipe Preparation

Lemon Spritz is an apéritif cocktail with citrusy and fresh tones like the Southside, another citrusy apéritif that has to be shaken. The vinous notes of the prosecco blend perfectly with the limoncello and their acidity diluted by the soda makes it perfect to enjoy with apéritif appetisers.

For this summer apéritif you will need an excellent limoncello, there are several on the market, so choose your favourite, but if you have a homemade one, even better! As for Prosecco, there are recipes using a Brut Extra-Dry or a Demi-Sec, again use what your palate prefers.

Once you have all the ingredients, take a tall tumbler or a large glass, I used a cocktail glass. Put the ice inside, and insert the lemon slices. Pour in the limoncello, prosecco and fill with soda or very fizzy water. Decorate with mint leaves and enjoy your apéritif!

If you like ginger, you can add 5 ml of ginger juice or use a pinch of ginger powder.
